Buffalo State College, officially called The State University of New York College at Buffalo and often referred to as simply Buff State, is a public, liberal arts college in Buffalo, which is New York state's 2nd largest city, housing more than 270 000 people, within its limits, according to the 2009 census.
Buff State was established in 1871 and first started as the Buffalo Normal School, having the original mission to train teachers. Today, the college offers its students 165 undergraduate programs with 11 honors options and 62 opportunities for graduate study, including 17 postbaccalaureate teacher certification programs (PTCP), through the following schools: School of Arts and Humanities, the School of Education, the School of Natural and Social Sciences, the School of the Professions, University College, and the Graduate School.
Buff State's athletic teams are known as the Bengals and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are Burnt Orange, Light Gray, and Dark Gray.
